Space Coast area residents and visitors who are looking for some sports related activities this week should head out to the Kiwi Tennis Club in Indian Harbour Beach. For the first five days of this tennis tournament (Apr 27 – May 1 2014), admission is free, so check it out if in the area.

Audi Melbourne Pro Tennis Classic Presented by Revolution Technologies
Kicks Off April 27th at Kiwi Tennis Club
A USTA Women’s $50,000 Pro Circuit Event

The USTA announced that Kiwi Tennis Club in Indian Harbour Beach will host the ninth annual USTA Women’s Pro Tennis Classic, April 27 – May 4. The Audi Melbourne Pro Tennis Classic Presented by Revolution Technologies is the largest tennis event in Central Florida.

World-class athletes will be competing to earn a Main Draw Wild Card into the French Open and for $50,000 in prize money. The tournament gives fans the opportunity to experience the excitement and intensity of professional tennis right here in Brevard County. The first five days are free. The USTA Pro Circuit is pathway to the US Open and other tour-level competitions for aspiring tennis players and a frequent battleground for established professionals.

The field for the $50,000 Pro Tennis Classic will feature 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. Players ranked as high as No. 50 in the world typically compete in Pro Tennis Classic events. Marina Erakovic, a professional tennis player from New Zealand is scheduled to compete. She reached her career-high singles ranking of No. 39 in the world in May 2012. Erakovic’s current singles ranking is No. 60. The qualifying tournament, beginning April 27, will determine the final four singles players in the field.

This year’s tournament will benefit the Scott Center for Autism Treatment, which will receive all the proceeds from the event. In addition to tennis, special activities will take place including a Kid’s Day, April 27; Aces for Autism Clinic, April 29; and nightly feature matches, April 29 – May 2.

“Each year the support continues to grow and we are excited about the interest in the sport by the community. Our sponsors give tennis fans a way to enjoy professional tennis on a local level,” said Holly Baney, tournament director.

FREE admission Sunday, April 27 – Thursday, May 1. Tickets can be purchased for Friday, May 2 – Sunday, May 4 at the door or in the Pro Shop prior to the tournament (Quarterfinals $15, Semifinals $20, Finals $25).

The USTA Pro Circuit was launched more than 30 years ago and is America’s gateway to tennis stardom, providing players an opportunity to gain professional ranking points. The Pro Circuit has grown to become the largest developmental tennis circuit in the world, offering nearly $3 million in prize money. Last year, more than 1,000 men and women from more than 70 countries competed in cities nationwide. Mardy Fish, Maria Sharapova, John Isner, Caroline Wozniacki, Sam Querrey, Li Na and Andy Murray are among today’s top starts who began their careers on the USTA Pro Circuit.

Ticket proceeds for this weekend will support the Scott Center for Autism. You can purchase tickets for Friday, May 2 – Sunday, May 4 at the door or in the Pro Shop prior to the tournament (Quarterfinals $15, Semifinals $20, Finals $25). According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 68 children are being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Your support through the tournament willallow us to achieve three very important goals: treatment of autism, discovery of new treatment methods, and training of therapists, parents, and teachers.

Be sure to be part of our car raffle on Sunday, May 4th for a brand new 2015 Audi A3 Sedan. All the proceeds from the raffle will also benefit the Scott Center. The winner will be announced immediately following the finals.  Buying the raffle ticket also gives you entry to the tournament! Raffle tickets are $150. The max tickets that will be sold are 400, so your odds at winning are great!
