BATS OF FLORIDA
The importance of conserving species will be shown through the examples of Florida Bats and their beneficial contributions to the biological diversity of their natural areas. Shari Blissett-Clark will also discuss the threats that the species are facing.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESCRIBED FIRE FOR BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY
Join us for an informative and enlightening talk on the importance of prescribed fire to the ecology of Florida and for public safety. The adaptations of plants and animals to low intensity fires tells us that many Florida habitats require a cycle of frequent fires. Biologist Tim Kozusko will also talk about other challenges of trying to balance nature in our contemporary world.

SUPER SOAKER INVASIVE SPECIES ERADICATION GAME
Learn about invasive plant and animal species and the harm they do to the local biodiversity. Pretend to “eradicate” them using water squirters and photos. This is a family-fun, wet, outdoor activity for all ages (especially the young at heart).

GETTING IN TOUCH WITH BIODIVERSITY IN BREVARD THROUGH NATURE JOURNALING
Want to enhance your experiences in the outdoors? Try nature journaling to increase your awareness and understanding of our county’s natural resources. Bring your journal and take away some creative ideas. We will be in the cabin for this event.

NATURE CLUB PLAY: THE CANNIBAL MONSTER
The young children of the Nature Club will present “The Cannibal Monster”, a live performance adapted from the Joseph Bruchac story. A short introduction to Native American storytelling will preface the play.

MAKING OYSTER MATS WITH THE BREVARD ZOO
Join the oyster restoration team from the Brevard Zoo and UCF to learn about efforts to restore the oyster population in the Indian River Lagoon. After then presentation, get “hands on” making oyster mats to be used in the Mosquito Lagoon. EEL staff will kick off the program reading the short children’s book written by local authors titled, “An Afternoon in Mosquito Lagoon”.

SAMS HOUSE AND CABIN TOUR
Tour the inside of Brevard County’s oldest standing home (Sams Cabin, 1875) and the adjacent 1888 Florida vernacular-style home and learn about the Sams pioneering family.
