Free Kid's Wetland Festival to be held Oct. 6 in Viera
VIERA, Fla. – Brevard County Natural Resources Management will hold its first Kid’s Wetland Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, also known as the Viera Wetland, 10000 West Wickham Road.
Children will learn about the value of wetlands while enjoying hands-on activities. Activities offered include archeology, invasive species, butterfly host plants, feeding habits of birds, snakes, turtles and alligators, Japanese fish printing (Gyotaku), a pirate treasure hunt, boat building and a special tour of the South Central Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. Most activities are one-half hour in duration.
The event is sponsored by the Brevard County Natural Resources Management Office, Utility Services Department and the Friends of Viera Wetlands.
Music will entertain attendees as they progress through the activity stations and food will be available for purchase. The event is free to the public.
